Cost Estimating

Founded in 2013, Profec is a third party project management company specializing in project controls for the industrial construction industry in Western Canada. From concept, to close-out, Profec provides all estimating, planning, tracking and forecasting needed to understand the status and direction of your project.

Profec's multi-discipline project experience and database of historical project data ensures accurate cost estimates for your projects. As a guiding practice, Profec follows the AACE International cost estimate Classification System which aligns the maturity of the project with the classification of the estimate.

Risk Modelling & Analysis

Risk management can make or break your project plan or budget. Profec will develop risk models using Monte Carlo simulation to help identify and analyze risks early in your project. Once identified, Profec will prioritize the risks and develop a risk mitigation plan to help plan for the unexpected. 

Project WBS Development

A project work breakdown structure (WBS) allows the project team to plan and track the work more efficiently. In order to define the unique project requirements, Profec utilizes a detailed WBS list which is used to prepare the project specific WBS. The WBS allows Profec to manage incurred costs, with the added advantage of offering the client a guide for estimating future projects.

Profec will engage with your project during the design stage to assess the design strategy, construction methodology, materials and systems to ensure that your project can be executed in the most cost and schedule effective manner.

Constructability Studies
FIWP Development

Using Bluebeam Studio, Profec will develop detailed project Field Installation Work Packages (FIWP) allowing the project team to manage projects anywhere and at any time from a desktop. Progress and drawing red lines are updated daily in the Bluebeam Studio, minimizing paper work in the field and ensuring that the project is being constructed to the proper drawing revisions. The project progress is analyzed daily to compare actual versus planned progress.

Planning & Scheduling

Using accurate manhour estimates, Profec will develop and baseline detailed project schedules using the critical path method. The project schedule is tracked and updated to confirm that the progress of the project is meeting or exceeding the baseline.

Progress Auditing

In order to ensure accurate cost and schedule forecasts, Profec requires detailed progress tracking by task and not by a weighting system. Using Profec's progress tracking methodologies, each task is progressed when completed. As progressed FIWPs are updated daily from the contractor, progress is verified by a field representative prior to updating the tracking system.

Project Controls

Controlling projects is Profec's specialty. Once your budget and schedule are finalized and approved, a control budget and schedule is baselined. Profec's detailed progress tracking methodologies and use of key performance indicators allow any variances to the project budget or schedule to be identified in advance, enabling corrective actions to be made as early as possible. 

3D Model Progressing

Profec offers 3D model progressing to provide a clear and simple representation of the status of your project. Using a color-coded system, Profec updates the progress of your project on the 3D model and incorporates the model in the progress reports. The 3D model assists your project team in visualizing the progression of construction, planning upcoming shifts and verifies actual versus reported progress.
